Portland Art Museum
Our Master Plan for the Portland Art Museum addressed its original building, designed by Pietro Belluschi and completed in 1932, and his 1939 and 1968 building additions. The conclusions of the Master Plan led to the purchase of an adjacent site and its circa 1927 Masonic temple building, expanding the Museum’s campus in downtown Portland to encompass more than two city blocks.
Our renovation and expansion of the Museum was completed in three phases. Phase one restored the 1932 building, and introduced new visitor services, gallery improvements, and climate control. Phase Two converted former art studios into a museum shop, café, and additional galleries, with a new 385-seat auditorium under a new outdoor sculpture plaza. Phase three repurposed the Masonic temple as the Center for Modern and Contemporary Art with galleries, events space, administrative offices, and a library, all connected to the original Museum through an underground gallery link.
